A few decades ago, Rich Pastorella experienced a life-changing training incident that prevented him from continuing one of his greatest passions: competitive martial arts. Rather than seeing that experience as the end of his journey, he chose to see it as the beginning of a new one. It caused him to look beyond competition, and ask a different question: “How can I use what I’ve learned to help other people?”
That question changed the direction of his life. Unwilling to accept the outcome, Rich began studying with some of the leading experts in natural health, ancient fighting arts, modern fitness, and movement training. Along the way, he discovered that no single method has all the answers. Every person is different, so helping someone often means taking the time to understand their unique situation first, and then choosing the approach that fits them best.
Over time, those experiences became the foundation of Pastorella Health & Fitness. Rich developed a broad range of skills that allows him to work successfully with people from many different backgrounds and at many different stages of life. Some people come to learn Kung Fu or Tai Chi. Others want to improve their balance. Some are recovering from an injury. Others simply want to become healthier than they are today. Each person has a different goal, and Rich believes that each one deserves an approach that fits their individual needs.
Today, Rich considers this much more than a profession. He considers it his vocation and privilege to help people discover what they are capable of accomplishing. Watching someone regain confidence after an illness, return to an activity they thought they had lost, or simply begin enjoying life again is what continues to inspire his work every day.
One of the things that has shaped Rich’s philosophy is the belief that meaningful progress is possible at any age. He doesn’t expect people to be perfect before they begin. He simply asks them to take the first step. From there, he patiently works alongside them, encouraging steady progress while helping them build strength and confidence over time.
Whether someone joins a Kung Fu class, begins practicing Tai Chi, or seeks guidance to improve their overall health, Rich considers it an honor to be part of that journey. His hope is that every person leaves healthier and stronger than when they first arrived.
